Since its establishment in 2000, the Japan Career Development Association (JCDA) has actively engaged in global exchange.
Starting with the National Career Development Association (NCDA)—a long-established organization that has led the world in the field of career development—we have deepened friendly relations with related institutions. We are especially grateful to NCDA members who provided tremendous support and advice at the time JCDA was founded. At that time, JCDA cooperated with NCDA as an international partner; now JCDA continues to deepen its cooperation as a corporate member.

Message from the President of NCDA

We are pleased to present a message from Seth Hayden, 2020-2021 President of the National Career Development Association (NCDA). Based on the long-standing cooperative relationship between JCDA and NCDA, it is our pleasure to convey a message on the importance of continuous learning to deepen expertise.
First of all, allow me to offer my heartfelt congratulations on JCDA’s 20th anniversary. JCDA has played a significant role in the field of career development in Japan, devoted to supporting the development of the professional abilities of its members.
In this period of the pandemic, we have experienced hardship and confusion. In such a situation, the importance of career and work has become more clearly recognized. I believe no past era has demanded more from career development professionals—in both the quality of support and depth of knowledge—than this one. Related associations and professional organizations provide opportunities for members to learn effective support methods and related theories, and these offerings respond precisely to the demands of this era.
In circumstances where in-person opportunities are limited, providing effective support requires creativity. Director Oohara has told us that JCDA offers many learning opportunities and networking for its members. Although the challenges posed by the spread of infection remain, they announced that they will continue key initiatives such as publication of the JCDA Journal and offering learning opportunities to members.
To members of JCDA, I hope you will continue to value connections with fellow members who share your aspirations. It may be ideal to connect in person. However, I welcome with joy the use of IT technology, which enables professional organizations like JCDA to continue offering ongoing learning opportunities to members.
I look forward to meeting with you again. I sincerely wish you and your families good health.
Message from Dr. Spencer Niles, Honorary Member of JCDA (Former President of NCDA)
All of us at NCDA were pleased to welcome JCDA—the trusted friend since its establishment—as our first international affiliate in the summer of 2001. I believe that this newly established association will help career professionals in Japan fulfill our shared mission: promoting career development of all people over the lifespan. In a world undergoing unprecedented social change, I think career development has an even greater role to play in the 21st century in riching people’s careers and lives globally. I have high expectations for the role JCDA will play in guiding the Japanese workforce for the benefit of both society and workers, and look forward to witnessing how career development unfolds in Japan.
